Welcome to gleam. Please read these terms carefully before using our platform.

1.About gleam and these Terms

1.1. gleam. (“gleam”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates a peer-to-peer marketplace and digital wallet platform accessible at gleam.no (the “Platform”). The Platform enables private individuals to store, track, and sell unused gift cards, vouchers, and store credit to other private individuals.

1.2. gleam is operated from Norway. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Platform.

1.3. By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and any additional guidelines referenced herein.

1.4. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.

2.gleam's role — marketplace facilitator

2.1. gleam is a marketplace facilitator only. We provide the technology platform that connects sellers and buyers of gift cards, vouchers, and store credit. We are not a party to any transaction between buyers and sellers.

2.2. gleam does not purchase, own, issue, or redeem gift cards. We do not hold inventory. We do not guarantee the validity, balance, or usability of any item listed on the Platform.

2.3. gleam does not provide financial services, payment services, or e-money services. All payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”) under Stripe’s own licences and regulatory authorisations. gleam does not hold, control, or have access to user funds at any point during a transaction.

2.4. gleam acts as an intermediary to facilitate communication between buyers and sellers. The contractual relationship for any purchase is between the buyer and the seller directly.

3.Eligibility and account registration

3.1. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform.

3.2. By registering, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 18 years old;
  • You are acting as a private individual, not as a business or commercial entity;
  • The information you provide is accurate and complete;
  • You will maintain the security of your account credentials.

3.3. Each person may only maintain one account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate duplicate accounts.

3.4. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4.Sellers — listing and selling items

4.1. As a seller, you may list gift cards, vouchers, and store credit for sale on the Platform. By listing an item, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are the rightful owner of the item or are authorised to sell it;
  • The item was lawfully obtained;
  • The balance and details you provide are accurate and truthful;
  • The item has not been reported as lost or stolen;
  • To the best of your knowledge, the item is transferable and its terms of issuance do not prohibit resale;
  • The item has not been previously redeemed, spent, or otherwise rendered valueless beyond what is disclosed.

4.2. Sellers are private individuals. The Platform is not intended for commercial-scale reselling. We reserve the right to limit the number of items a user may list within a given period, and to suspend accounts that exhibit patterns consistent with commercial activity. Users who regularly sell gift cards in volume may be reclassified and subject to additional requirements.

4.3. You set your own asking price. gleam does not set, recommend, or influence pricing.

4.4. By listing an item, you agree to sell it at the listed price to any buyer who completes a purchase through the Platform.

4.5. gleam is not responsible for verifying the balance or validity of listed items. Verification tools provided on the Platform are offered on a best-effort basis and do not constitute a guarantee.

5.Buyers — purchasing items

5.1. As a buyer, you may purchase items listed on the Platform. By making a purchase, you acknowledge that:

  • You are buying from a private individual, not from gleam or from the original issuer of the gift card;
  • The transaction is a private sale between you and the seller;
  • Consumer protection legislation applicable to business-to-consumer transactions (such as the Norwegian Consumer Purchase Act / forbrukerkjøpsloven or the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015) may not apply to private-to-private sales;
  • gleam facilitates the transaction but is not a party to it and does not guarantee the item.

5.2. All purchases are protected by our escrow system (see Section 6). This is your primary protection as a buyer.

5.3. Upon purchase of a digital or QR-code item, the card details will be revealed to you. For physical items, you must arrange collection with the seller.

5.4. You must verify the item promptly after receiving the details. If the item does not work as described, you must report the issue within the escrow protection window.

6.Payment, escrow, and fees

6.1. All payments are processed by Stripe. By using the Platform, you agree to Stripe’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. gleam does not store your payment card details.

6.2. When a buyer makes a purchase, the payment is held in escrow by Stripe (via manual capture of the payment intent). The funds are not transferred to the seller until one of the following occurs:

  • The buyer confirms that the card works by clicking “Card worked” (for digital/QR items) or “Card received” (for physical items);
  • The 24-hour auto-release period expires without the buyer reporting an issue.

6.3. If the buyer reports that the item does not work within the escrow window, gleam will review the dispute and may issue a refund to the buyer. The buyer may not report an issue if they have already partially or fully redeemed the card.

6.4. gleam charges a platform fee of 5% of the transaction amount, deducted from the seller’s payout. There are no fees for buyers. There are no fees for storing cards in your wallet.

6.5. Seller payouts are processed via Stripe Connect. Sellers must complete Stripe’s onboarding process, which may include identity verification, to receive payouts. gleam is not responsible for delays caused by Stripe’s verification requirements.

6.6. Payout amounts are calculated as 95% of the sale price. Payouts are typically processed within 1–2 business days after the escrow is released, subject to Stripe’s processing times.

7.Physical card transactions

7.1. Some items are listed as “physical cards” that require in-person handover. For these items:

  • The seller provides their general location (city or area) when listing;
  • After purchase, the buyer and seller must arrange a meetup to exchange the physical card;
  • The buyer’s email is shared with the seller after purchase to facilitate communication;
  • The buyer must confirm receipt by clicking “Card received” in the Platform;
  • The same escrow protections apply — the seller is paid only after buyer confirmation or after the 24-hour auto-release window.

7.2. gleam is not responsible for the safety, logistics, or outcome of in-person meetups. Users arrange meetups at their own risk and should choose safe, public locations.

7.3. gleam is not responsible for items lost, damaged, or stolen during physical handover.

8.Prohibited conduct

8.1. You agree not to:

  • List items you do not own or are not authorised to sell;
  • List stolen, fraudulently obtained, or counterfeit items;
  • Provide false or misleading information about an item’s balance, validity, or restrictions;
  • Use the Platform for money laundering, fraud, or any illegal activity;
  • Manipulate the escrow system, including confirming receipt of items you have not received or reporting issues in bad faith;
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions;
  • Use the Platform for commercial-scale reselling without gleam’s prior written consent;
  • Attempt to conduct transactions outside the Platform to avoid fees or protections;
  • Interfere with the Platform’s operation or security;
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Platform without permission.

8.2. We reserve the right to suspend or permanently ban accounts that violate these Terms, without prior notice and without refund of any pending balances.

9.Intellectual property

9.1. The Platform, including its design, code, text, and branding, is the intellectual property of gleam and is protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws.

9.2. Retailer names, brand names, and trademarks referenced on the Platform belong to their respective owners. gleam uses these names solely for the purpose of identifying the products to which gift cards relate (nominative use). gleam does not claim any affiliation with, endorsement by, or partnership with any retailer or brand unless expressly stated.

9.3. Users may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works based on gleam’s content without our prior written consent.

10.Gift card issuer terms

10.1. Gift cards, vouchers, and store credit are originally issued by third-party retailers and businesses (“Issuers”). Each Issuer has its own terms and conditions that govern the use of their gift cards.

10.2. Some Issuers may restrict or prohibit the transfer or resale of their gift cards. It is the seller’s responsibility to verify that resale is permitted under the Issuer’s terms before listing an item on the Platform.

10.3. gleam has no contractual relationship with any Issuer. gleam does not guarantee that Issuers will honour gift cards purchased through the Platform. If an Issuer refuses to accept a gift card that was validly purchased through gleam, this is a matter between the buyer and the Issuer, or the buyer and the seller.

10.4. gleam is not responsible for gift cards that are deactivated, cancelled, or rendered invalid by the Issuer after a transaction has been completed on the Platform.

11.Limitation of liability

11.1. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, gleam’s total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Platform is limited to the amount of fees you have paid to gleam in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

11.2. gleam is not liable for:

  • The accuracy of information provided by sellers, including card balances and validity;
  • The actions or omissions of buyers or sellers;
  • The refusal of any Issuer to honour a gift card;
  • Any loss resulting from unauthorised access to your account;
  • Technical failures, downtime, or interruptions to the Platform;
  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages;
  • Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.

11.3. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.

12.Dispute resolution between users

12.1. If a dispute arises between a buyer and a seller, we encourage both parties to first attempt to resolve it directly.

12.2. If direct resolution fails, either party may contact gleam at support@gleam.no. gleam may, at its sole discretion, review the dispute and take action including issuing refunds, reversing transactions, or suspending accounts. gleam’s decision in such matters is final.

12.3. gleam is under no obligation to mediate disputes between users but may do so as a courtesy.

13.Privacy and data protection

13.1. We collect, process, and store personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at gleam.no/privacy.

13.2. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Norwegian and UK data protection legislation.

13.3. By using the Platform, you consent to the collection and use of your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

14.Account termination

14.1. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at support@gleam.no. Upon deletion:

  • Your personal data will be deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law;
  • Active listings will be removed from the marketplace;
  • Pending transactions will be completed or cancelled before account deletion;
  • Transaction records will be retained for 5 years as required by Norwegian accounting law (bokføringsloven).

14.2. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. In the event of termination for cause:

  • Pending seller payouts may be withheld pending investigation;
  • You will be notified at the email address associated with your account;
  • You may appeal by contacting support@gleam.no within 30 days.

15.Changes to these Terms

15.1. We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect.

15.2. Your continued use of the Platform after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

15.3. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Platform and delete your account.

16.Governing law and jurisdiction

16.1. These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Norway.

16.2. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved amicably shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Norway, with Stavanger District Court (Stavanger tingrett) as the agreed venue.

16.3. For users resident in the UK, nothing in this section prevents you from bringing proceedings in the courts of your country of residence if you are entitled to do so under mandatory consumer protection legislation.
